At the Nora Rong Khru festival, the most striking sound has to be the Piphat ensemble and the distinctive singing. It feels as if you are under a spell. The music at a Nora festival is one of the key elements; beyond being beautiful, it adds an almost unbelievable layer of sacredness to the ritual. We never got the chance to talk to the musicians because they were playing all day, every day, late into the night. Even so, their energy never dropped. At one point it rained so hard the power went out, the sound system died, and they didn't even stop playing because the show must go on.
